Chickens are free to roam the student organic farm at Michigan State University. Unlike confined chickens, free-range chickens interact with with plants and other creatures for the good of the farm system.

    Hi,
I enjoyed your piece. I have a small farm in the Upper Peninsula where chickens, ducks and even peacocks reign supreme. While I have to provide greater protection against predators, especially for newly hatched chicks, I think it’s worth it to give these beautiful birds the natural life of free ranging. Factory farms are appalling in their inhumanity and pollution.

I agree that this was informative – and certainly will encourage me to pay more attention to the origins of the food I eat.

Yes Barb, the eggs are scrumptious but you need a crock pot to cook the chicken…..the taste is worth the trouble!
