The lack of such fees did not protect us from the economic situation we are in and such fees will not deter new job creation. In fact, the revenue generated would support recycling efforts across the state. Recycling centers would create jobs and manufacturers using the collected materials to make products would create more jobs here in Michigan. Landfills are some of the most profitable businesses in this country. It makes perfect sense to tax wasteful behaviors and use the revenue to fund useful, environmentally beneficial efforts that create jobs and improve our quality of life.
