Carmakers fight hike in ethanol at gas pumps

(MI) The Detroit News – A push by corn-producing states and alternative fuel proponents to increase federal rules boosting the amount of ethanol mixed into gasoline is being fought by automakers because it would be costly and could damage engines.

By Dec. 1, the Environmental Protection Agency must decide whether to approve a request to increase the amount of ethanol that can be mixed with most gasoline sold at pumps to as much as 15 percent. More

The prices on gas are climbing up so much that, people are talking about an alternative fuel to run a car. A 4 cylinder car consumes gas like a beast even if 4 cylinders is considered to be by the general public as less of an energy hungry car. An alternative fuel to run a car for the next century is water, water’s chemical derivatives to be exact So water is going to help us out in this energy crisis era, well the technology was always there but because it was convenient for oil industries not to use it to make a car run, it was kept in the dark.

Electrolysis (splitting water into hydrogen/oxygen) has always been known and is used albeit not extensively.

The problem with using electrolysis for energy use, either as hydrogen as in the proposed “Hydrogen economy” or as electricity as used in fuel cells. Is simply that it requires a DC current to separate H from O2 which expends more energy (consumes) than what is derived.
The solution is to extract the hydrogen but at an economic cost.
