Sorry the Alewives are an invasive species, they gotta go! By protecting the alewives all invasive species are protected, this will include the Asian Carp. Keeping an Alewife population requires native fish to be kept at a minimum, Native perch, Walleye, Pike, Muskie all eat alewives. Alewives also eat the larger Zooplankton that is the best at controling toxic algae, they also eat Perch and walleye fry. Check how many bait shops have closed in the last 20 plus years around lake Michigan, Chicago had 39 bait shops 20 years ago now they have 3, since they manage the lake for salmon.
